Why Come to Chianti in Tuscany?

Why Come to Chianti in Tuscany?

Florence and Siena are some of the most commonly talked about locations in the region of Tuscany – but most of those who have been to this part of Italy will know that one of the best areas here is Chianti.

From the DOCG Chianti Classico wine that hails from this area, to the picture-perfect scenery; there’s plenty for you to enjoy here.

The wines

Most of those who pay Chianti a visit come simply for the wine. In fact, many people flock to the region of Tuscany with the intention of enjoying a glass of Chianti Classico and exploring the many wineries and vineyards on offer. While this wine is produced in several other parts of Tuscany now, there’s no denying that going to the source is preferable – and many will want to pay a visit to the Black Rooster while here, the oldest and arguably most authentic winery in the region.

While straw bottles of Chianti are certainly interesting to look at and great for a souvenir, most find that buying a regular bottle with a pink label and black rooster is just as iconic.

The stunning towns

If you’re used to city life, you are sure to be in awe of the charming little towns of Chianti. There are several that you should check out during your visit, such as Greve, Montefioralle and Castellina. This is far from all of the beautiful locations that you’ll find in this part of Tuscany, but don’t rush – it’s often a much better idea to make the most of your time here.

Plus, from the rich history to wine festivals, most towns will have something interesting going on, too.

The breathtaking scenery

The beautiful countryside of Tuscany is just one of the many things that make the region so popular – and Chianti certainly has its fair share of stunning landscapes.

September is often considered to be one of the best times for visitors, as this is when farmers tend to pick their grapes ready to start the year’s harvest. Seeing the countryside as it changes with the seasons is also stunning, so whether you plan to come to Chianti in Spring or Autumn, you’re likely to be blown away by the views.

Exploring all that Chianti has to offer

There is so much to see and do here in Chianti – and because of this, many choose to go on a half-day tour of the area. Typically, trusted tour companies will cover all the highlights and offer you a truly amazing experience.

Alternatively, you could rent a car and go on a tour of your own, driving along and seeing all the many beautiful sights that this part of Tuscany has to offer on your own time.
